Archiving Policy

Archiving Policy for Cosmic Journal of Languages

The Cosmic Journal of Languages (CJL) is an online, open-access journal that publishes original research on all aspects of language, including linguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, computational linguistics, and language acquisition. The CJL is committed to preserving and making accessible all of its published content to the public.

To this end, the CJL has the following archiving policy:

  • All published content, including articles, reviews, and editorials, will be deposited in the Portico digital preservation service. Portico is a non-profit organization that provides a secure and reliable archive for scholarly publications.
  • All published content will be archived in the journal's website. The CJL's website is hosted on a secure server and is backed up regularly.
  • All published content will be archived in the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) distributed preservation system. LOCKSS is a distributed digital preservation system that replicates websites across multiple servers.

In addition to these archiving measures, the CJL also publishes all of its content in PDF format. PDF is a widely supported and open format that ensures that the journal's content will be accessible to future readers.

The CJL is committed to ensuring that its published content remains accessible to the public for as long as possible. The archiving policy outlined above is designed to achieve this goal.

Archiving Process

The CJL archiving process is as follows:

  1. Once an article is accepted for publication, the author will be asked to provide a final PDF version of the article.
  2. The CJL editorial team will deposit the PDF version of the article in the Portico digital preservation service.
  3. The PDF version of the article will also be archived in the journal's website and the LOCKSS distributed preservation system.
  4. The CJL will regularly check to ensure that all of its archived content is accessible.

Preservation of Metadata

The CJL is committed to preserving not only its published content, but also the metadata associated with that content. Metadata includes information such as the article title, author names, keywords, and publication date.

The CJL will preserve metadata in the following ways:

  • The metadata associated with each published article will be deposited in the Portico digital preservation service.
  • The metadata associated with each published article will also be archived in the journal's website and the LOCKSS distributed preservation system.
  • The CJL will regularly check to ensure that all of its archived metadata is accessible.
