Waiver Eligibility

The COSMIC JOURNAL OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes high-quality research on all aspects of religious studies. The journal is committed to promoting diversity of thought and methodology, and welcomes submissions from scholars of all backgrounds.

The COSMIC JOURNAL OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES offers a waiver of the article processing charge (APC) to authors who meet the following criteria:

  • Authors who are from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) as defined by the World Bank.
  • Authors who are affiliated with institutions in LMICs.
  • Authors who are early-career scholars (within 5 years of receiving their PhD).
  • Authors who are unemployed or underemployed.

To apply for a waiver, authors should submit a brief request to the journal editor, explaining their eligibility and why they need a waiver. Requests should be submitted along with the manuscript submission.

Waiver Decisions

Waiver decisions are made by the journal editor on a case-by-case basis. The editor will consider the author's eligibility, the quality of the manuscript, and the journal's budget.

Notification of Waiver Decisions

Authors will be notified of the waiver decision within two weeks of submitting their manuscript.

Waiver Process

If an author is granted a waiver, they will be asked to sign a waiver form before their manuscript is published. The waiver form will confirm that the author agrees to the terms of the waiver, including the requirement to publish their article under an open access license.

The COSMIC JOURNAL OF RELIGIOUS STUDIES is committed to making its research accessible to everyone. The journal's waiver policy is designed to support scholars from LMICs, early-career scholars, and unemployed or underemployed scholars.
