Abstract

Ergonomics plays a crucial role in the early stages of medical device development, impacting
both user experience and patient safety. This paper critically examines the significance of
ergonomics in enhancing risk awareness during the initial phases of medical device design. By
integrating ergonomic principles into the development process, designers can anticipate and
mitigate potential risks associated with device use, thereby improving overall usability and
reducing adverse events. Through a thorough literature review and case study analysis, this
paper highlights the key considerations and challenges in implementing ergonomic principles
effectively. Furthermore, it explores the methods and tools available for assessing ergonomic
risks and their integration into the design process. The findings underscore the necessity of early
consideration of ergonomics to foster a proactive approach towards risk management in medical
device development. Overall, this paper contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of
ergonomics in mitigating risks and enhancing safety in medical device design.
