Abstract

Pediatric nurses play a vital role in addressing the social determinants of health (SDOH) among children and adolescents. SDOH are the conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, and play that affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes. Pediatric nurses can use their unique skills and knowledge to screen for SDOH, connect patients with resources, and advocate for policies that promote health equity. The social determinants of health (SDOH) are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age. They have a significant impact on child health and health disparities. Pediatric nurses are uniquely positioned to address the SDOH in their practice due to their accessibility to children and families, long-term relationships with children and families, role as student advocates, and presence as a clinical expert in the school setting.
